Vehicles in Germany's City Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Officers reported they were alerted by a man who found a car in Hanau covered with reddish substance

Approximately fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Law enforcement state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.

The substance had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then discovered many other smeared cars and house walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement report initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no indication as to its source; authorities are presently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.

Local authorities announced they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for tips.

An important official commented the attack rendered him speechless and needed to be resolved quickly.

"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in five years prior.
